In depth

Verdict

A very competitive handicap to close the card. Type One is conceivably well-handicapped on his all-weather form and, with his stable back in form, the trusty hatpin has landed next to his name. He did actually win on turf from an eight-pound higher mark two years ago so, you never know. It's hard to get too excited about the bottom eight in the weights but Turibius a course and distance winner, is not a straightforward ride and a three-pounds ratings rise to overcome for that victory, but he ought to still go well. Hawk finally came good in a Catterick claimer last time and, with his confidence high, might be able to go well again. Parkside Pursuit won from today's mark last July but that was over six furlongs. A Teen is just a couple of pounds higher, if you factor in his capable rider's claim, than when last winning. Playtime Blue is four pounds higher than for his Windsor win earlier in the month, while Tomthevic remains in good heart and can go well again. Bryano de Bergerac has just one career win to his name, and General Smith looked well handicapped when just touched off at Warwick on Monday, so I guess the same line of thought still applies. Tickle is weighted to go well on form of three years ago, and Mutasawwar makes a quick reappearance after staying on late in a claimer at Epsom on Monday. It's a race that lacks strength in depth but the top two in the weights, Type One and Turibius, are maybe the two to focus on, with the former getting the nod.
