In depth

Verdict

Very few horses take part in the opener with any real worth while form but Shakwaa, Bridge Pal, Cill Uird and Ewe Beauty look the most likely contenders with the vote going to the last named. Although beaten a fair way on her seasonal reappearance when finishing fifth beaten twenty lengths in a bumper at the same track as today, Ewe Beauty will come on for that effort. Her two runs last year showed little sign of ability but Ferdy Murphy would not have wasted his time in training a horse who he thought would not win a race. This could be her opportunity to win on her hurdling debut in such a poor race today. Of the others Shakwaa performed well enough on the flat as a three year old and on her penultimate outing when finishing a decent three lengths third in a similar contest at Carlisle back in April. Even though she disappointed thereafter a repeat performance will see her go close today. Cil Uird did manage a third at Cartmel back in August but was well beaten last time out and will have to step up a gear if she is to get in the enclosure. Bridge Pal has some flat form but was again beaten a fair way on her hurdling debut and will have to improve. So for the winner we return to Ewe Beauty.
