In depth

Verdict

River Kirov can get recent losses back, with Blackheath, Raymond's Pride, Aahgowangowan and Steel Blue worth a mention. Peter Chapple-Hyam has his string in fine form at present, and that augurs well for the chance of River Kirov who was sent off as favourite on his last engagement at Thirsk just over three weeks ago. A combination of rain-softened ground and drop back in trip contributed to the colt's defeat, and as long as he handles the fibresand today, he should make a bold bid to atone. Blackheath generally wins at least once a year, and is another that will appreciate the move back up to six furlongs, while Raymond's Pride is not running too badly, but looks high enough in the weights at present. Aahgowangowan has been thriving in impending motherhood, but has just started to go off the boil, and Steel Blue was not beaten far at York last time so is worth a mention. River Kirov has more to offer at the age of three though, and is worth siding with here.
