Verdict
Division two of the amateur riders claiming stakes sees another 14-race-affair consisting mainly of out of form animals, making finding a selection a hard task indeed. With that in mind it may pay to go with a trainer in form in Gary Moore who saddles Mount Royale. The five-year-old has one thing in its favour -he has managed to win a couple of races here at Southwell. In fact all three of his career victories have been on this track, which is a plus, the negative being that they have all been over seven furlongs. The shorter trip is therefore a problem in making him the selection. In a race this poor then, what do you try and oppose him with? Three days In May and Octennial are hardly world-beaters, so the only alternative appears to be Bonito. Pat Haslam¿s charge, a maiden winner in Germany two years ago, has shown nothing since coming to Britain, but has not shaped too badly in two previous attempts on the fibresand. Outpaced on his first try on Lingfield¿s Polytrack last time, he will find this a lot easier despite the drop in distance, and is put forward as an each-way chance in what is a nightmare for punters.
