In depth
Verdict
Not for the first time, Kylkenny had his limitations exposed in a handicap here last time and Hugh Morrison's gelding looks booked for a place at best so preference is for Come What July, who gets the vote ahead of Newtonian. The last mentioned had to return to maiden company to finally open his account last time and has more to do back in a handicap today. The 10-year-old Dower House has claims on the form shown when winning over this trip at Wolverhampton last month, form on which he is closely matched with the selection; however, Andy Turnell's gelding has disappointed since then and this surface may not suit him as well. Kristensen has been given a break since scoring over course and distance three months ago and has to be respected if fit enough for this, while Shape Up showed that this surface holds no fear for him when running out the length winner over Come What July here last week. The runner-up has a nice pull in the weights though and Norma Macauley's gelding is taken to reverse that form with the capable Philip Makin taking another 3lbs off.
