In depth
Verdict
Plenty of in-form animals contest this mile handicap and recent course and distance winner Quiet Reading, along with the likes of Hov, the evergreen First Maite, and the unexposed Spindor look the ones to concentrate on, with Quiet Reading getting the nod. Martin Bosley has placed this six-year-old really well, winning five races along the way, which isn't bad for a horse of his ability. However, it was his latest outing which confirmed he is still on the upgrade when he proved just too strong for First Maite over this trip, when ridden by Hayley Turner, who has only ridden the horse twice, winning once and finishing second on the other occasion when beaten a short head. She clearly knows Quiet Reading well and they are taken to confirm the form with First Maite. The latter seems to have been around forever and a day and has been a credit to connections having picked up 16 races in an illustrious career. He still retains plenty of enthusiasm and is sure to be a tough nut to crack. Spindor is out of a sprinting mare and it remains to be seen if this trip brings about any improvement. If it does he will be a threat to all, while Hov looks sure to appreciate this step up in trip, as he is a half-brother to 11-furlong winner Lindisfarne Lady as well as being related to a winning hurdler.
