In depth

Verdict

Maniatis should take all the beating here with Heathers Girl, Romil Star and Big Smoke the others for the shortlist. The selection ran really well when second behind Pure Mischief on this track last time, and with the extra furlong expected to suit, compensation surely awaits. Big Smoke could be dangerous in this grade, but he was well beaten by our selection last time and he is probably best watched on this occasion. Heathers Girl is in good form at present but this mare was out-stayed by Dash of Magic over this course and distance last time and the suspicion is that she is slightly better over shorter. Romil Star was a little disappointing at Newcastle on Thursday behind Hearthstead Dream and he can't be backed with any confidence here, so for the winner we return to Maniatis.
