Verdict
Our shortlist here consists of Gemi Bed, Dante's Battle, Shah, Orient Bay, Pink Harbour and, possibly, Clayphento, with the vote going to Pink Harbour. It is not often that Ginger McCain sends a horse to Taunton and, even though this is only a modest heat, with the stable's runners in good form he has to be considered. He won from a higher mark over hurdles in October, and has shown enough in his chase efforts to be considered at this level. Gemi Bed won a similar event from a two-pound lower mark in March and should be sharper for his latest effort, which brings him into the reckoning, while Dante's Battle is a winning Irish chaser who showed he can still show fair form in the context of this race by winning over hurdles in May. Shah, who is due to drop three pounds in the ratings soon, was running well from nearly a stone higher mark a year ago, while Dual Star has taken a nosedive in the ratings following indifferent form after winning from a much higher mark last year. A return to form for either of the last two mentioned gives them chances. Clayphento has to be respected from the Martin Pipe yard, although he has not shown much in a light career to date. Of the others, Knight Of Silver has chances based on his hurdling form but has yet to repeat it over fences. An interesting race in its way, then, and one that can go to Pink Harbour.
