Verdict

Sonar Sound is selected to make a winning handicap debut with Travel Guide and Barracat feared most. The selection is having his first run since January, his first for a new yard and his first in handicap company. He has yet to show a great deal either on the level or over obstacles but his yard has done well with the horses at their disposal and have a strike rate in excess of one in four when Richard Johnson rides. It's worth taking a chance on him here. Travel Guide has a similar profile in that he, too, has been well beaten on each of his four visits to the racecourse. He may have sufficient reserves of stamina to see out this trip and he merits plenty of respect with his powerful yard going well. The market should prove to be informative in respect of the chances of the above pair but Barracat has more obvious claims having chased home Flying Grey at Perth last time. He's only 2lbs higher and should go well again but we're prepared to take a chance on Sonar Sound.
