In depth

Verdict

Etching deserves to win a race having found one too good in each of her last four starts but James Fanshawe's filly has been raised 5lbs since her most recent defeat and may again have to settle for minor honours with Faraway Lady taken to return to winning ways at the main expense of Uncle Max. The last mentioned is gradually dropping to a fair mark and has to be respected with the stable of Jamie Osborne back among the winners. Tass Heel is similarly well treated now but there have been very few signs of encouragement from Mick Channon's gelding of late. Alan Bailey's Herne Bay showed improved form for the step up to this trip at Beverley last time. He has obvious claims off a 5lb higher mark and should again have the beating of Saintly Thoughts. Party Ploy has struggled off his new mark since winning at Hamilton and, while there may be more to come over this longer trip, we prefer to side with Faraway Lady. Luca Cumani's filly completed a hat trick earlier this summer and lost no caste in defeat off today's mark when second to another in-form stayer in Misternando at Ripon last time. She is taken to return to winning ways here.
