As can only be expected this is a tough one to call but Springfield Scally is a game and consistent performer and, as such, he given a slender vote over Welcome To Unos, Crystal Gift and Master Tern, who are all capable of going close on the best of their form. However, this could be run to suit Springfield Scally, who loves to dominate his field in his races. The eleven-year-old has been faced with some stiff tests in his six previous outings this season but has always acquitted himself well in defeat. The Steve Gollings-trained gelding will appreciate this ease in grade and will be hard to peg back if he is allowed to set his own pace. Master Tern is more than capable of winning a race of this nature and has to be given the utmost respect. But he has not really shown much relish this season and remains a risky choice as an alternative. Therefore, the lightly-weighted Crystal Gift is taken as the one to give the selection the most to do. However, as he has never won beyond two and a half miles in the past he has a little to prove over the trip and is taken on with proven stayer Springfield Scally.
