A tough opener to Wetherby's card and Englishtown is only a marginal fancy over Gary's Pimpernel and Flake, who should make sure this is a good test for all involved. Sally Scally is also capable of getting involved at this level and is another worth noting in the betting market. Gary's Pimpernel is in good form at present and has already paid his way this term. However, he faces no easy task from top weight and will really need to be on song to hold them all off today. Flake has also earned his share of place money recently and deserves a change of fortune. However, his yard are going through a quiet spell just now and that has to be a little off-putting. So we switch to Englishtown, whose yard will have been boosted by the return to form of previous Wetherby scorer Mini Sensation at Exeter yesterday. The JP McManus-owned colt has taken a little time to adjust to racing over timber but has shaped as if he is now getting the hang of things. The return to this sort of trip also looks ideal for Englishtown and he can kick-start what will be a very interesting day for the Jonjo O'Neill yard.
