Verdict

CORNERSTONE LAD gives weight away all round but was an improved handicap hurdler last term and showed his readiness for this return to hurdles with a battling success on the Flat at Catterick last month on heavy ground. Billy Garrity's 5lb claim is a valuable asset and he's taken to maintain his progression over timber with fitness assured as well as his ability to handle soft ground. Dear Sire must be taken seriously on his seasonal return, especially with the McCain yard amongst the winners this week and the course and distance winner is shortlisted alongside the highly consistent Theatre Legend and Yccs Portocervo who needs to be forgiven a below par effort latest, prior to which he'd looked a promising recruit for the Dr Newland team.
