Verdict

Silver Knight can build on a highly promising debut over fences at Carlisle to go one better here, with Castle Richard and Mallory the main dangers. Tim Easterby's five-year-old has been brought along steadily since finishing sixth in Aintree's Championship Bumper in 2002, as connections have always though that he would make a nice chaser one day. His fairly useful efforts over timber were therefore merely a stepping stone to his true vocation, and that was borne out with a cracking first effort at Carlisle in October when he and Surprising fought out a head-bobbing finish up the hill, well clear of the rest. Beaten a whisker, compensation surely awaits for the son of Simply Great. Castle Richard actually beat the selection a short-head when they met over hurdles in December 2002 at Sedgefield, but this more galloping track will suit Silver Knight who, in any case, has an eight-pound pull in the weights. The other contender is Mallory who was quite useful over hurdles, but may be best watched on this, his chasing bow. Silver Knight should be the one here before going on to better things, on the northern circuit at least.
