In depth

Verdict

Limerick Boy can improve on his Plumpton return to see off Benbyas, Milligan and Beat The Heat in race that should not take too much winning. Limerick Boy was Group class on the Flat in Germany, and was good enough to win a Grade 2 hurdle contest at Aintree in 2003. He has since continued to take on top opposition in that sphere, but after a somewhat disappointing year, it was decided to try him over the bigger obstacles. Unfortunately he came up against the useful Locksmith at Plumpton a fortnight ago and was not disgraced in finishing third, with Sleep Bal ahead of him. That was a pleasing introduction to fences, he has worked well since, and it will be a surprise if he does not improve enough to open his account today. Benbyas was tiring when ditching his pilot at Uttoxeter but should come on for the run, while Milligan faced a stiff task in the One Man Novices' Chase here three weeks ago and is another that should have learnt something. Like the selection, he took on decent company over timber and should soon be winning over fences. Beat The Heat makes more appeal than the remainder, but he in turn is held on Plumpton running by the selection, Limerick Boy.
