In depth

Verdict

Diamond Mick displayed improved form to beat Magico at Kelso earlier this month and should go close again, however we will give the vote to Classic Calvados, with Stan also expected to run well. Peter Niven's five-year-old is steadily dropping down the weights and could be down to a winning mark. He is a model of consistency and put in another sound performance last time when going down by less than five lengths to Brave Vision at Newcastle earlier this month. He has yet to win a race, but off just 10st 7lb, this could be his day. Diamond Mick confirmed last season's promise when landing that Kelso event and could still be on the upgrade, he looks the main threat to the selection despite his rise in the weights. Stan was also successful last time, beating Aleron in a very competitive handicap. As he is only lightly raced there should be more to come and he should be in the shake up. The best of the remainder could be Allude, but Classic Calvados deserves to win a race of this nature and gets the verdict
