In depth

Verdict

A tricky race with a number of issues for punters to chew over before placing their bets. Mrs Philip has been running consistently over further trips and if she handles the step back to two miles- she must go close. Beau Torero is another to drop back in trip. A wide margin winner in a very average contest, this looks a lot more competitive and even with Jamie Moore booked, much more will be required off this mark. Artemise is a notoriously tricky ride but with the stable in form it would be wrong of us to dismiss her out of hand on this occasion. Photographer had useful form as a juvenile hurdler and while Deena Smith's team aren't normally too far away with their runners it is quite some time since we saw the best of today's topweight. Our vote at big odds goes to Compton Commander. The ex-Gerard Butler horse has been put up against some decent Novices' on his three starts at Wetherby, Aintree and Stratford. Today represents a severe drop in class and with Ian Williams enjoying a decent run at the moment - it would be no surprise to see this horse trouble the judge on this occasion.
