In depth

Verdict

A good race in which Come on Johnny is taken to defy a penalty in spite of strong opposition from Speightstown and All right My Son. Ralph Beckett's charge demonstrated a tremendous attitude when sinking a few lofty reputations here last Monday. The going will not be as testing as it was this time last week but the way he knuckled down was impressive and he should take the beating in spite of a 6lb penalty. Speightstown is a huge colt for his age but he was nimble enough to get the better of Mr Aitch on good to firm going. The handicapper has taken few chances allocating him a mark of 82. All right My Son is on his ninth run of the season without getting his head in front. He seems to unfortunately always find one too good and a step up in trip has been selected by connections this afternoon. Sign Writer promised plenty on his earlier efforts but he has delivered little joy for his backers on the racecourse. The market is watched. Mystery Lot could be the dark horse in this contest. She has ran creditably on three starts thus far and on breeding she should stay this extended mile. The fact that she is trained by leading National Hunt trainer Alan King might also lead to her being a few points bigger than her form suggests. Come On Johnny has a likeable attitude though and it is to him we turn.
