In depth

Verdict

A very difficult race to assess and Salford Artist gets the narrow vote ahead of Red Rudy and Prime Contender. The selection does at least have plenty of scope for improvement having had just the one run at Newbury in July, when fifth behind Pugilist. He has been given plenty of time to mature by his astute trainer and we could see a much better performance. Prime Contender has shown better form on his last two outings without ever looking likely to win, once again he should be in the frame. Red Rudy has put in some decent enough performances in handicaps and should go well back in maiden company. The best of the others could be Phlaunt who has solid form from last season, but the Elsworth horses do improve with racing and so Salford Artist is our choice.
