In depth

Verdict

Shortest Day has shown enough in maidens to warrant the vote on his handicap debut, Seven Samurai and El Capitan are also weighted to go close. Sir Michael Stoute's daughter of Zafonic has improved with each outing. All three races to date have been over the seven furlong trip and on breeding she should be better suited by this slightly longer distance. Seven Samurai has already shown ability in handicap company having finished a close third at Goodwood last time off a mark of 78, he will be hard to keep out of the money. El Capitan showed excellent form earlier in the season and looked on the way back last time when third to Kilbarri in a competitive event here last week. In quite an open looking event Zabeel Tower can also boast each-way claims, but Shortest Day hasn't been harshly treated by the handicapper and looks set for a good run.
