In depth

Verdict

This looks good for Archduke Ferdinand, with Reinstated and Billich the ones to chase him home. A lot of water has gone under the bridge since Archduke Ferdinand landed the Northumberland Plate for Paul Cole five years ago, since when he has been in action over jumps quite a bit since joining Alan King. However, it was on the level that he gained his first victory for the stable, at Lingfield 17 days ago when he bounced back after a 107-day break to saunter home unchallenged. Given that he will come on for the run, he looks well up to defying a rise in the weights to follow up under Richard Kingscote. Reinstated has been pretty one-paced to date and will perhaps have to be dropped even lower to score, while Billich has flattered to deceive as well. This poor contest should easily go the way of Archduke Ferdinand, albeit at a skinny price.
