In depth

Verdict

Nautical, Fantasy Crusader and Baby Barry all come into this race in form and it should lay between that trio for the winner here, and our vote goes to Baby Barry. The Geraldine Rees-trained gelding has performed with credit on this track in the past, and showed plenty of guts when hanging on to win over a mile at Goodwood last time. With the yard still in form and Seb Sanders likewise from the plate, he can see out this extra furlong and follow up. Fantasy Crusader is another likeable sort who is guaranteed to get this trip. Unpenalised for an amateur riders' handicap win last time out, he clearly merits respect here, though he has a clear preference for fast ground and this will probably not suit. Nautical has been campaigned at virtually every trip this season and enjoyed success over seven furlongs at Chepstow on his penultimate start. He should get home over this longer trip, but he was bang out of form over hurdles at the weekend and it remains to be seen if that has sapped his enthusiasm. Our idea of the winner here then is Baby Barry.
