Verdict

Dont Call Me Derek showed improved form for the step up to today's trip at Catterick on Tuesday and is taken to defy the penalty, with Modesty Blaise and Dovedon Hero rated the main dangers. The selection was all out to justify market support at Catterick on his first attempt beyond nine furlongs but stayed the 1m4f really well and, provided that he has taken that race well enough, should be able to follow up. The booking of Kieren Fallon for Mark Brisbourne's Giunchiglio takes the eye and he has to be respected although a bigger threat may come from the consistent Dovedon Hero, who has slipped to a fair mark but lacks experience of the surface. Modesty Blaise, who has been given a break since his latest start in February, looks well enough treated and has the assistance of Frankie Dettori but is far from certain to stay this distance on pedigree. Party Ploy should have no stamina doubts but needs to run right up to his best off his current mark and has given the impression of late that he is feeling the effects of a hard season. Mister Arjay, who comes here fresher than most, and James Given's Maritime Blues are others worthy of a mention but the vote goes to Dont Call Me Derek who is expected to follow up Tuesday's success.
