In depth
Verdict
Amir Zaman can outstay the opposition here, including the likes of Skye's Folly, Kristensen and Pagan Magic. Amir Zaman has been given a long break since running over hurdles at Towcester in April, and he will no doubt be going back over timber this winter. In the meantime he makes some appeal here over a trip that should suit. John Jenkins' charge was not kindly treated at the weights when winning over a mile and a half at Southwell in January and failed to follow up under Kieren Fallon on a return visit. A drop in trip and the slow conditions did not help his cause then, but he should be a different proposition this time. If fit enough he can see off the challenge of Skye's Folly. James Given's four-year-old had the third horse 10 lengths away when touched off by Albavilla on his first visit here three weeks ago, and the step up another two furlongs should be in his favour. However, he had every chance of passing the eventual winner in the straight that day but the fact that he failed to get his head in front is a bit off-putting. Kristensen has not been easy to place but was third to the prolific Sendintank at Musselburgh, while Pagan Magic attempted two miles for the first time. Cold Turkey has gone off the boil of late but certainly paid to follow last winter and should be noted for future reference, but on this occasion we plump for Amir Zaman.
