Verdict

Gilded Cove can defy a six-pound penalty for his recent course and distance win, the dangers being the horses above him in in the handicap. The selection has won two of his last three races, both over course and distance, and clearly comes here in good heart. Tamarella, a five-furlong winner at Bath in April, has every right to be competitive at this level, although he is unproven on the surface. Blonde On Blonde has won three of her last four races, but each time the trip was six furlongs and she comes here on the back of a 119-day break. Raymond's Pride might yet prove to be the selection's biggest danger. Very much sprint bred, he has knocked on the door a few times in a relatively light career, and cheekpieces have been fitted for the first time. Brioso showed his first piece of form at Southwell four days ago but more will be needed. Evangelist has shown little since winning over course and distance last summer but, if managing to get it back together, could not be ruled out. Star Applause won a seller here over five furlongs in February but has been found out since. Hazy Babybear drops back to five furlongs for the first time since showing some promise at the trip as a juvenile.
