Verdict
Tayif gets the call over Polar Haze, Canterloupe and Pertemps Magus, with Mr Bountiful and Maunby Raver others to note. Tayif has beaten better opposition than this in the past, and although it is now over three years since he won the Ayr Silver Cup, the eight-year-old continues to pay his way, having won three times this year. His latest effort came in claiming company, and the drop down another level should ensure that he has a major say, although he could have done with a kinder draw. Polar Haze, who has been a grand servant to Jeff Pierce over the years, showed signs of a return to form when third to Penel at Southwell, and although yet to win anywhere else, has a fair draw and should go close as well. Canterloupe is drawn wide and was a beaten favourite here recently. However, she undoubtedly has a good chance at the weights and cannot be discounted either. Pertemps Magus may do better dropped in trip on recent evidence, while Mr Bountiful has a good draw and Maunby Raver is a course and distance winner. Many in with chances then, but Tayif gets the vote.
