In depth

Verdict

There was plenty to like about the way The Violin Player won his last two starts and, as he appears to be at least a step ahead of the likes of Cruise Director and Dovedon Hero, he gets a confident vote. Come What July has been in good form lately and is another to consider for a place, as he is a consistent type that can be relied upon to give his all at this level. However, he has looked as if the handicapper has his measure in his last two starts and he may be a little short of the mark. Cruise Director is undoubtedly back to something like his best and has shaped as if his turn is not too far away. Still he may be better off in receipt of weight and he faces a stiff test today. As does Dovedon Hero, who has crept up the ratings without winning any of his last four start. He is 3lb better off with the selection today and may well provide the sternest challenge. However, The Violin Player does not appear to have stopped improving yet and he is fancied to go in again.
