      Verdict

Hammer of The Gods can deny Canadian Danehill his hat-trick, with Mountain Pass and Gone 'N' dunnett also expected to run well in an open looking handicap. The key to today's puzzle may lie in the sprint that took place over the course-and-distance three weeks ago in which Canadian Danehill got the better of Hammer of The Gods by a neck. Robert Cowell's charge was the subject of plenty of support but was made to work hard by the latter who was just edged out on what was his first outing in 322 days. There should again be little between the pair, but Hammer of The Gods is now a pound better off and will surely strip fitter for that belated return. Those two facts tilt the scales in his favour and he can give Eddie Ahern another winner. Ex-Irish Mountain Pass duly made a successful British debut for Mark Wallace with the help of a first-time visor, but has more to do in this tougher company, while Southwell winner Gone 'N' dunnett may be taken off his feet on this surface. Further down the weights, both Namir and Mambazo have minor place claims, but Hammer of The Gods makes most appeal.
