In depth

Verdict

The shortlisted three are Fiddlers Wood, Pop Music and Snowy Day, with the vote going to Fiddlers Wood. Fiddlers Wood's mile all-weather Lingfield form in each of his last two runs equates to 75-plus which is a long way ahead of anything most of these have achieved and he looks to hold a very good chance today. To be fair, his rating probably ought to be closer to the 70 mark but the assessment still holds. Pop Music got the hang of things late on his seven-furlong debut here (Siwa, who finished second in that race, runs in the preceding race on the card) and is very much respected, as is Snowy Day, a likeably-bred Willie Hagags-trained newcomer. Of the others, Dickie's Dream has hinted at ability and, in a modest race, it would be no surprise to see him go well, while Danish Blues at least showed some form last time, but its value is lowly. This, in turn, returns us to the selection, which is Fiddlers Wood.
