    Verdict

The shortlisted horses are Arzaag, Sir Douglas, Best Double and Siwa, with the vote going to Arzaag. Arzaag has shown plenty of promise on each start and, but for poor luck in running last time might well have finished a lot closer to Lady Orpen. He looks to hold very good claims in this maiden. The Jamie-Osborne-trained newcomer, Sir Douglas, who cost 24,000 guineas, has to be considered, while Best Double, who has been placed in each of her last four runs, holds very solid claims based on the value of overall form. Another with claims is Siwa but, having been placed over seven furlongs, she might just find the selection capable of doing her for toe late on. Wolfman is related to some quick horses but will need to pull out a bit more than so far shown in order to score, and first-time blinkers will have to bring about a lot of improvement from Cayman Mischief. Finally, Value Plus's 2004 two-year-old form would give her a shout but she seems to have lost her way, and Silvanella is from a fast family but others are better fancied today. Overall, then, the vote stays with Arzaag.
