In depth

Verdict

Capriolo lines up in form and can defy topweight at the expense of Sir Walter, Fifth Generation and Lilac to name but three. Capriolo is not the most straightforward of characters but has the ability when he wants to use it, and after consenting to jump off at Fontwell a fortnight ago, gained his first win since 2002, albeit narrowly. That was in claiming company, and he now has to line up off topweight in this handicap, but after weighing up the opposition, it is hard not to come back to Pat Murphy's charge, especially with his pilot able to claim 10lbs. Sir Walter has no scope for improvement but was a fair fourth in selling company at Hereford recently, and Fifth Generation is even older but may be prominent for a while. That leaves Lilac as the potential main threat, as the Richard Price yard are in great form at present, and at the age of five, this mare, successful at Uttoxeter last summer, has more scope than most. However, if Capriolo has his mind on the game, he should be capable of following up.
