In depth

Verdict

Pagan Sky can defy topweight over Great Plains, with Clueless, Clipperdown and Mutajammel others that can make their presence felt. Pagan Sky responded to a first-time visor when handling the soft ground to return to form at Sandown last month, and as he is still fairly well treated and now steps out on more suitable going, James Toller's six-year-old can prove that his latest effort was no fluke. Great Plains has not taken long to get the hang of things, making a winning debut at Goodwood before finishing third in a Newmarket handicap on only his second racecourse start. However, that was back in May and he might just need this despite the stable's good form at present. Clueless was outgunned in a better race than this at York last time so should be involved, while Clipperdown was rather unlucky at Epsom and has claims on earlier form. Mutajammel was in need of his belated return at Newmarket at the end of last month, and on the evidence of his Sandown maiden victory a year ago, is one to keep on the right side of. For the winner we return to Pagan Sky.
