      Verdict

Oxted is top rated here and avoids a Group 1 penalty for his victory in the July Cup where Brando, who was very slowly away, was among his victims. He started odds-on for the Abernant Stakes at Newmarket last month but was beaten fair and square by Summerghand. However, an earlier trip to Saudi Arabia may have taken the edge off him. Starman completed a hat-trick when landing a Listed contest here in September but couldn't make the step up to Group 1 company in the Champion Sprint at Ascot when Brando was a surprise second, with ART POWER a close fourth and Oxted fifth. Tim Easterby's charge was only a three-year-old there but that was his third successive race in Group 1 company against all-aged sprinters. With another year under his belt, he's expected to step up to the highest level this campaign.
