Verdict

Zenno Rob Roy can take this prestigious prize back to the far-east, with Italian raider Electrocutionist and Irish challenger Ace also out to make things tough for the home contingent. Zenno Rob Roy is a superstar in his homeland where his haul of Grade 1 victories includes last November's Japan Cup in which he left the likes of Phoenix Reach, Powerscourt and Warrsan toiling in his wake. Make no mistake, this is a seriously good horse who is used to the big occasion as is partner Yutaka Take who takes over from Olivier Peslier. The son of Sunday Silence is equally effective over 10 and 12 furlongs and will love the ground. Electrocutionist was in terrific form last year and showed his well being by landing the Group One Gran Premio di Milano in June, but that was his first success at this level and he will have to be on top form to beat the selection. Ace has course knowledge, having chased home Azamour here in the Prince of Wales's Stakes in June, and having failed to see out the trip in the King George, could well make his presence felt. However, he was behind Norse Dancer that day, and David Elsworth's charge, still looking for that elusive Group One win, will be flying late on as well as he bids to go one better than when second to Sulamani 12 months ago. Doyen has so far failed to recapture last season's form, and Godolphin hope that the fitting of a tongue-strap will help him to give them a third success in five years. Maraahel, second to Bandari in the Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes, is another that needs to find plenty if he is to give Sir Michael Stoute a fifth win in this valuable contest. The last of those was of course Singspiel in 1996, and he managed to win the Japan Cup en-route, so history could well be about to repeat itself, with Zenno Rob Roy set to make his European debut a winning one.
