Verdict
A low draw will be of great assistance to Group Captain, who gets the nod over Front Stage, Bay Story and Jack Of Trumps, while Bridge Loan is also worth a mention and can play a leading role if he can gain a prominent position before they take the first turn. The last named is developing into a useful campaigner and fully deserved his success at Newmarket last month. The son of Giant's Causeway was unraced until the start of this year but has won three of his five previous starts. This is by far his stiffest test in handicap company and it remains to be seen how much more improvement he has in him from a mark of 95. Jack Of Trumps and Bay Story are closely matched from their encounter at Newbury and it will be interesting to see which one comes out on top this time around. The draw has been more favourable to Jack Of Trumps today, so it will come as no surprise to see the form reversed. Geoff Wragg's charge gets the trip well but his style of running could put him at a disadvantage with a few of the others. Front Stage represents a trainer that always merits the closest scrutiny with his runners at the Knavesmire. This son of Grand Lodge has been very progressive so far and fits the typical profile of several of his former stablemates. However, Sir Michael Stoute's charge is trying a mile and a half for the first time today and his ability over the trip has to be taken on trust. Therefore, we take a chance with Group Captain, who was not showing any signs of stopping when he romped home in the Vodafone Stakes at Goodwood. The son of Dr Fong will appreciate what cut there is still in the ground and this battle hardened campaigner is going to be very hard to keep out of the frame at least today.
