      Verdict

Distinction stands out here and should take all the beating, with Songlark, Lost Soldier Three and Cruzpiel seen as the main dangers. Distinction showed that he is a force to be reckoned with in staying events when landing the Goodwood Cup three weeks ago, despite connections' reservations about his ability to handle the soft ground. Conditions are much more in his favour here though as he bids to take another step towards a crack at the Melbourne Cup in which he was sixth last year. His improvement has been amazing as he was successful in handicap company on the Knavesmire last July, and he makes much more appeal than stablemate Cover Up. Songlark gained his first win for Godolphin when scoring in Listed company at Pontefract last time, but has much more to do on his first try at this trip and is passed over, as is Lost Soldier Three who has a job on to turn the Goodwood form around with the selection, as does Millenary who is not the force of old. The latter does at least hold Kasthari on last October's Newmarket form, but there can only be one winner, and that is Distinction.
