        Verdict

        Marcus Tregoning will have the chance to gain compensation for Nayef's defeat in a small way if Mac can get his head infront at the expense of Lodger and Wavertree Boy. The gelding had no problems in accounting for more experienced stayers at Goodwood eight days ago and confirmed himself as being on a upward curve. Ebor-winning trainer David Elsworth saddles Wavertree Boy. This likeable individual takes a drop down in class having performed in listed and Group 3 company and he should love the track. Lodger scored hard held at Newcastle on his last racecourse visit and is difficult to assess on that evidence. However by the same token, the handicapper hasn't had a chance to get his measure and has had to put his current mark down to guesswork. Jagger took advantage of a lenient handicap mark to land a recent Goodwood prize - Numitas and Midas Way in behind. There could still be more to come from the son of Linamix although there is an obvious differential at today's weights to consider. Web Perceptions and Coolbythepool renew recent Hamilton rivalries. That race was a particularly slow run race and it is unlikely that they will be hanging about on this occasion. With many question marks about the others , we believe that the progressive Mac is the one to side with on this occasion.
