Verdict
Luca Cumani has farmed this race in recent times and Pongee should go well but our vote goes to Mezzo Soprano. Godolphin's filly has proven competitive at a high level this season, form that includes a Ribblesdale third and French Group 3 third last time. Her stable's overall form is bit of a concern but, if she's at her best, must go close. Pongee comes here on the back of four straight wins but this is by far her toughest test to date. Landinium is a Listed Italian winner but was well held on her only run in this country, behind Place Rouge at Haydock, a race in which Flying Wanda and New Orchid finished second and third, respectively, separated by three-parts of a length. Thingmebob had earlier run well in the Oaks and also performed with credit in a Listed event at Newmarket last time. She should be open to further improvement, as should New Orchid, who hails from the stable that took this last year. Henry Cecil's Singleton should go well. She has had only three runs but the last of these saw her finish second behind St Leger hopeful Shanty Star in the Queen's Vase. Of the others, Kiteflyer has to be respected coming from John Oxx's stable. However, for us, it's Mezzo Soprano to hit the high notes.
