In depth

Verdict

Tahrir is given a chance to redeem herself this afternoon with Malcheek and Yo Pedro. Although favourite backers will have been disappointed with Tahrir's most recent start, it did confirm that seven furlongs is most definitely her trip and today's opposition does not look as strong as that faced at Newmarket. Malcheek won off a mark of 75 at Thirsk. A six pound rise for that win appears a little harsh given the proximity of the second and the slow time recorded. That said, his two wins thus far were certainly not flukes. Yo Pedro looks a more plausible danger. He probably did not get home over a mile at Newmarket, having had the field on the stretch from some way out. There should be few excuses on fast ground over seven furlongs at York. Rain Stops Play is another possible front runner. Plenty exposed, forcing tactics appear to suit best if the formbook is to be believed. Regal Dream has been running well but his best seems to be reserved for the more unorthodoxly configured tracks of Epsom and Brighton. Vanadium looks best of the remainder. Tahrir should give a fair account of herself and looks the pick this afternoon.
