In depth

Verdict

Royal Oath can complete the hat-trick at the expense of Easy Air, Incidentally and Ordnance Row, with Dunelight worth a mention. John Gosden reckons that Royal Oath is capable of mixing it at Group level soon, hence his entry in the Celebration Mile at Goodwood, and this lightly raced sort should certainly make his presence felt in this company judged on his latest performance. That was at Lingfield where he beat a good field by three lengths, and off his current mark he should take all the beating. Easy Air ran a blinder to be beaten two lengths by Sir Gerard in the Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot, and although failing to build on that at Newmarket, Ed Dunlop's charge is not one to dismiss lightly. Goodwood maiden winner Incidentally had a run over 10 furlongs here last time and will fare better over this shorter trip but needs to improve, while Ordnance Row has it to do on his first run of the season. Dunelight put behind a disappointing run in the Britannia to finish a good second at Newmarket, with first-time blinkers helping his cause. Tumbleweed Glory has a light enough weight and so is worth a mention at least, but Royal Oath is a class horse in the making and is very much the one to beat.
