Verdict
Surprisingly few can be seriously considered in the Showcase sprint and the vote goes to Hiccups while Sharp Hat, Brigadore and College Maid appear the main dangers. Lynda Ramsden's charge confirmed earlier impressions that he would be well suited by the minimum trip when coming late to land a fair Carlisle handicap late last month. The son of Polar Prince showed a tidy turn of acceleration and was value for more than the official winning margin as he was eased in the closing stages. The selection has been raised 6lb since but this lightly raced type remains open to plenty of improvement and looks a step ahead of the handicapper at present. Sharp Hat has been well placed to win on four occasions this term and has confirmed his well being with placed efforts in similar company at Beverley and Musselburgh. David Chapman's charge remains on a fair mark and looks sure to give another good account while Brigadore has tumbled in the weights and showed signs of a return to form when a close fifth in a competitive Newmarket handicap last time. College Maid is not the most consistent of animals but is only 2lb higher compared to her Musselburgh success last month so can't be discounted but Hiccups is the least exposed in the field and may have more to offer while the booking of Kieren Fallon lends further confidence.
