Verdict
Kidzplay's trainer Jim Goldie would surely like to win the race named after his good handicapper and is represented by Repulse Bay but he is difficult to recommend on recent form and preference is for Fairy Monarch, who gets the nod over Royal Melbourne. The selection made a highly satisfactory reappearance when going down by just a length to the well handicapped Piste Bleu at Ripon last month and a reproduction of that effort may suffice in an uncompetitive event. Julie Camacho's Royal Melbourne has an obvious chance on the form shown when winning at Newcastle two starts ago but that was on a soft surface and the son of Among Men was unable to reproduce the form back on a faster surface at the same venue subsequently. Top weight Escalade has received little respite from the handicapper of late and probably needs dropping a few more pounds, while Melograno is now 9lbs higher than when second on the Fibresand at Southwell two runs ago and looks to face a stiff task. The booking of Tony Culhane for Inchnadamph takes the eye and he has to be respected along with Merlins Profit, who has been running well in Banded stakes races of late. However, Fairy Monarch has an obvious chance based on his seasonal reappearance run and gets the vote to go one better today.
