In depth

Verdict

A hugely-competitive renewal of this famous old contest, though Bashful was also entered in the 4.15 Beverley yesterday. Garden Oasis beat Painters Palette, Tilsitt and Hortzadar at Ayr just over two weeks ago and is only 3lb higher. The front-running Mostawaa is on a hat-trick after scoring at Brighton and York while Mick Appleby saddles recent winners United Front and Golden Sands. Still unexposed on Turf, PILLAR OF HOPE only weakened close home over 1m2f in the Zetland Gold Cup at Redcar last month. He’d beaten Golden Sands over Beverley’s stiff mile previously and may have been lucky with the draw today. Liamarty Dreams represents last year’s winning yard and The Cookstown Cafu is running well and appears to have the beating of Vaccine on the form book.
