Verdict
Guilded Warrior is selected here ahead of Compton's Eleven and Lavenham. Having displayed a distinct liking for soft going, Guilded Warrior, who has won three of his last four races, still looks to be on the up and he can go well under his penalty. Compton's Eleven is a winner waiting to happen based on his best form and he looked a little more like his old self last time, but Woodcote Place possibly has it to prove from his current rating for win purposes. Glenbuck now races from just a pound above his winning Yarmouth mark in April so he can't be ruled out, while much as Bonnie Prince Blue has yet to fully build on his Kempton win, you get the feeling that it will all fall into place one day, and today's going seems to be okay for him. Lavenham's soft-ground Newmarket run last time showed that he can be competitive from his current rating, while Starlight Gazer came good on heavy going at Newbury last time and is entitled to some thought under his penalty. For the selection, though, we will stick with Guilded Warrior.
