Verdict
Old California, a 95-rated middle distance handicapper on the flat when with John Dunlop, looks a decent recruit to the juvenile hurdling ranks and it will be a surprise if he is not good enough to beat these. Martin Pipe is sure to have the son of Sadler's Wells well schooled for his debut and he is the TEAMtalk selection. Of the other newcomers Irish import Cape Canaveral, now trained by Gary Moore, and Sylvester Kirk's Halland Park Lad look the pick but a bigger danger to the selection is likely to come from one of those with previous hurdling experience. The Ian Williams-trained Fortunate Dave has struggled under a penalty incurred for his Warwick win in two starts since and may again have to settle for a place at best, while the consistent Galant Eye should again find at least one too good.
