Verdict
Despite the large field, this is probably not as competitive as the numbers suggest, and Tony Tie gets a tentative vote to land his third course victory, with Sarraaf and Trojan others to consider. Jim Goldie's seven-year-old was disappointing when a well-backed favourite at Ayr last time, but is better over this shorter trip and had run quite well previously when ninth in the Thirsk Hunt Cup off a four pound higher mark than today. While that form is not exactly inspiring, he has won twice here in the past and is now on a winning mark, so with Tony Culhane booked it may worth be taking a chance that he can bounce back to form in this weakish race. Sarraaf was a length behind the selection in the Thirsk race and is now a pound better off; Ian Semple's gelding was not too far away at Musselburgh last time and should again be thereabouts. Trojan is an interesting contender from the in-form stable of James Given. The colt started life with Sean Woods and moved to William Haggas, and while he has clearly had his problems, it is safe to say that he has more scope than most of these. Soller Bay has been in good form of late but has gone up the weights accordingly and may not be able to dominate here as he likes to.
