Verdict
Knot In Wood ran a cracker in the Ayr Gold Cup but would seem an unlikely participant here and we will take a chance on PONTY ROSSA ahead of Burnwynd Boy. There is no guarantee that Ponty Rossa will be fully tuned up for this return to the racetrack after 455 days off, however she has a bit of class and was last seen winning a Listed race at Warwick in June of last year. She handles this ground and it is interesting that connections have persevered with her this year. If the market is very negative, then it may pay to side with Burnwynd Boy. The highest-rated in the line-up, Linda Perratt's three-year-old needs to bounce back from a poor run at Chester but that track doesn't always suit horses. His form is a bit patchy but he certainly has ability. Pawan drops in trip today but needs to improve on a lacklustre display at Goodwood, so of more interest may be Knot In Wood. A classy sprinter at his best, this course and distance winner drops in class today if he turns up and he looks the main danger. Apart from Cake, the other three couldn't win this in a million years, and so we will plump for Ponty Rossa as the selection.
