In depth

Verdict

Emerging Artist has presumably had training problems as he doesn't make his debut until the age of four, and so a safer option may be VERY GOOD DAY although in a fascinating race with several runners rated in the high 70's/low 80's it is hard to be too dogmatic. Mick Channon's Sindaar colt got to within three lengths of the subsequent Derby third Rewilding at Goodwood last time out. That Listed run is the best piece of form on offer and although this is no gimmie he should prove hard to beat. Elbeedee was second to Warling at Warwick and that was a step in the right direction. She was well-backed for her seasonal reappearance and she is respected today. Candoto and Ocean Club join Mighty Mambo on a list of horses who may be more interesting in handicaps after this third run, so a bigger threat could be Joseph Lister who shaped with promise at Salisbury on debut (unfancied at 12/1) and is open to lots of improvement on just his second start. Kuantan Two is out of a half-sister to Fame And Glory so is far from ignored on his racecourse bow, along with Emerging Artist whose dam is from an Oaks family and it is encouraging that connections have persevered with him. The more exposed trio of Cotillion, Kansai Spirit and the hurdler Pergamon all set a solid standard for many to aim at, but the best form is held by Very Good Day who is selected accordingly.
