There was a lot to like about the performance of Akshar at Redcar earlier this month. Admittedly that looked a pretty moderate contest in comparison to this one, but the Danehill colt looked in a different class to the opposition and should be comfortable with the step-up in both class and trip here. Again, he gets the fast ground he relished last time, and receiving weight from all but one of his rivals he looks the one to be on. Zawrak was enjoying a decent spring, with a win over a mile at Epsom followed by a decent enough placed effort at Nottingham. Stepped up in class, he struggled on soft ground at York, but would have to have a chance here if his third in a similar contest over course and distance last time out is to be relied upon, though with top weight he may just be tapped for toe again. Another to merit consideration is Harnour. Mick Channon's yard is clearly in form, though Harnour has been difficult to place so far this season and often finds one to good. Drawn one, this natural pacemaker may set the race up for his opponents. Denning looks the pick of the others. After a setback in the spring, he won on debut at Windsor last month, before being tried over this trip and finishing just a length in arrears of Counsel's Opinion at Doncaster last time. A Grand Lodge colt, he should appreciate the fast ground and it would be no surprise if he gave the selection most to do.
