In depth

Verdict

A very tough race to call with a field full of exposed runners, and there is a certain element of guesswork involved in whose turn it is to win today. We'll plump for ANNAMBO to notch up a rare enough success, while Filun and Salybia Bay are among the dangers. Andrew Reid is among the winners at present, and although Annambo doesn't oblige very often, he does have a 1m 4f Wolverhampton victory on his CV and races today from a very competitive mark of 57. His latest effort asked too much of his stamina and he is better judged on his run at Dunstall Park prior to that. It is his first ever race at Kempton and provided he doesn't hate the place he has as good a chance as any. Salybia Bay is likely to be towards the head of the market, but she has flattered to deceive too often, including when comfortably beaten over course and distance from this mark last week, so we will take her on again. Imperium is 2lbs higher than when scoring here in January and looks likely to be a leading player, while Filun took a similar contest in March at this track and is now 7lbs lower, so must be respected despite some indifferent form since. King's Fable has been more out than in this season, but his Windsor run in August offered a little hope, and he was not disgraced last time. Tuppenny Piece is being given some rope by the handicapper and is a rare potential improver in the field, so watch the market for clues, but Annambo can have his day.
